Yes my son is learning cross stitch. Why? Well because he wanted to..... simple as that. I don't think any hobby should be just for girls or just for boys. Things are just things. I also refuse to raise a man who can't mend his own clothing in case of minor rips and such. The cross stitch is a great place for any child to learn. The stitch itself is easy to learn. They can create awesome things cross stitching. Also cross stitching will mend just about any hole and sew on a button. So it really goes a long way. I started by taking different length card stock. I then cut them into 4in wide strips. Then I cut one short, another medium, ans the last one long. So I ended up with three of them. I used a hole puncher to punch holes into the card stock. The smallest I only punched enough for two completed "X's". Then I went up a bit more for the last two so that by the third one he could complete 12 "X's". I tied a long piece (three times longer the length of the card stock) into the bottom left corner. The end of the yarn that wasn't tied to the card stock I made into a point by TIGHTLY wrapping tape around the tip. He practiced this for a good bit of time. He is just now starting his first project tomorrow. If you don't know how to cross stitch a easy to follow Youtube video is at the bottom. I will update this as his progress continues. The first photo is the card stock. The second one is the tape edge and the third is his project he is starting tomorrow.
